Giant’s Head Park, located atop Summerland’s Giant’s Head Mountain, is a must-see attraction for those looking for a view to remember. Getting there, just turn west off Hwy 97 onto Prairie Valley Rd. near downtown Summerland. Turn south onto Giant’s Head Rd, then west onto Milne Rd. Continue following the Giant’s Head Park signs.
From the commemoratively decorated park gate entrance you can continue driving steadily up and up along this newly paved roadway for about 2.5 km. Please keep a cautious eye out for cyclists and hikers as you slowly ascend and later descend this switchback road. Many excellent scenic points are offered along this rout as it almost makes it to the very top of this now extinct volcanic core.
At the top end of the pavement you will find benches, picnic tables, and washrooms, plus an array of places to park, relax, and look out into the connecting valleys. There are two trails from this point to get to the summit. One path leads you straight uphill for a 10 min. grind while the other one switches back and forth, offering a pleasant 20 min. ascent. From this 910 meter cliff top, you will find panoramic views of Summerland, Naramata and Penticton including Summerland’s famous KVR Trout Creek Bridge.
