| Vernon,
Okanagan Valley, BC is a Northern Okanagan Valley
community surrounded by backcountry mountains, lakes, alpine plateaus,
forests and agricultural farmland. The community of Vernon rests
on the shores of Okanagan Lake and Kalamalka Lake and is the northern
entry point to the Okanagan Valley.
Many services are available in downtown Vernon
British Columbia. The streets are lined with retail shops and
stores along with restaurants, galleries and boutiques. Services
important to travelers in the community include accommodations,
banks, gas stations, internet, grocery stores and laundromats.
A trip into Vernon also provides an opportunity
to visit the vast collection of murals painted on the downtown
buildings. Beside the murals are attractions like art galleries,
museums and theatre. One of the more popular
attractions is the Interior Space and Science Centre located in
Polson Park.
The community of Vernon BC is a year round recreation
destination with numerous parks and trail systems. In the summer
months activities enjoyed include golfing, canoeing, kayaking,
water skiing, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, windsurfing,
birdwatching, boating, mountain biking, backpacking, dirt biking,
atving and agricultural tours.
During the winter months people enjoy many snow
activities. Cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling
are popular activities along the backcountry gravel roads behind
Vernon. Silver
Star Mountain, north of Vernon, is a resort ski hill popular
for downhill skiing, cross country skiing and snowboarding.
Because of the many parks, trails and lakes in
the region there is much to do. Some of the more popular recreation
destination parks in the region include the Kalamalka
Lake Provincial Park and the Ellison
Bay Provincial Park. A sandy beach attracting allot of attention
in the summer is Kal Beach near Coldstream.
